Why Can’t I Safely Eject Seagate Backup Plus

If you aren’t able to safely remove the Seagate Backup Plus drive on your PC, follow the troubleshooting steps give below.

  1. First, identify the problem by removing Seagate Backup Plus drive and testing it on another PC.
  2. If the problem persists, then it is not a system-related problem.
  3. You need to troubleshoot the Seagate Backup Plus drive.
  4. Disabling the Recycle Bin may resolve the problem, but this option is available only on Windows 8 and later versions. 
  5. Therefore, give a right-click on the Recycle Bin on your Windows desktop and select Properties.
  6. Click the Global tab and select Configure drives independently.
  7. Go to the top of the screen and select the USB drive letter.
  8. Select the “Do not move files to the Recycle Bin” checkbox and click the OK button.

  1. If you have installed any security software like Norton Antivirus, the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the System Tray will not work correctly.
  2. So, you need to disable the Norton Protected Recycle Bin to resolve this error.
  3. Close all the running programs that are related to the Seagate Backup Plus drive.
  4. For Windows 7, XP, 2000, and Vista operating systems give a right-click on the My Computer icon and select Manage  Device Manager.
  5. Open Disk Drives and give a double-click on the hard drive model number.
  6. Navigate to the Policies tab and check whether you have enabled the Optimize for Quick Removal checkbox.
  7. Also, check whether the external drive folder is configured to a monitor folder on Windows Media Player Library.
  8. If the problem remains unsolved, turn off the Windows Indexing Service.
  9. Open Task Manager and close all the programs that are related to the Seagate Backup Plus drive.
  10. You can also use the Seagate Pocket drive toolkit to remove the Seagate Backup Plus drive safely.
  11. Give a right-click on the Toolkit icon available on the System Tray and select the Exit option.
  12. Now, restart your PC and check if you can safely remove the Seagate Backup Plus drive.
